Back to School, Back to the Laundry Room
A&CO. ROOM FEATURE
As backpacks return to the entryway, sports uniforms fill the hampers, and the school-week routine kicks back into gear, there’s one room in the house working harder than ever: the laundry room.
Once considered a purely utilitarian space, today’s laundry room has become an opportunity to bring thoughtful design to one of the most hardworking areas of the home. And as these projects from our portfolio show, there is certainly no one way a laundry room has to look.
Beautifully Designed to Work Hard
From rich, moody cabinetry and dramatic stone to crisp whites, playful pattern, warm woods, unexpected color, and beautiful brass details, we love tailoring these spaces to the personality of each home and the people who live there. Whether a client gravitates toward clean and modern, timeless and traditional, bold and colorful or something entirely in between, we always strive to create a laundry room that feels completely at home within their aesthetic.
But a beautiful laundry room starts with much more than finishes.
We consider how each family actually uses the space. How much storage is needed? Is there room for hanging and air-drying? Would built-in hampers make the weekly routine easier? Does the space need to accommodate folding, sorting, utility storage, a sink, or even serve double duty as a mudroom? Every inch matters, particularly when a room has so many jobs to do.
Thoughtful cabinetry can keep necessities organized and out of sight, while open shelving, hanging rails, generous countertops, baskets, and designated work zones help make everyday tasks feel a little more effortless.
Utility Can and Should Be Beautiful
Some of the most functional rooms in a home are also the ones we use the most, so we believe they deserve just as much design attention as any other space. A striking floor, beautiful hardware, an unexpected wall treatment, or a fabulous cabinet color can transform laundry day from a chore performed in a forgotten utility room into time spent in a space that actually feels good to walk into.
And really, why shouldn’t the laundry room be beautiful?
As back-to-school season puts these hardworking spaces into overdrive, it might be the perfect time to rethink yours. Whether you’re dreaming of a complete transformation or incorporating a beautifully planned laundry room into a larger renovation, we would love to create a space that works for your family, and looks incredible doing it.
